(Milwaukee, Wis.) – The Washington Park Wednesdays summer concert series returns on July 9, 2025, kicking off eight weeks of music, kids’ activities, food trucks, and community engagement at Milwaukee’s historic Washington Park Bandshell (4599 W. Lloyd St., Milwaukee). Activities begin at 5 p.m., with live music starting at 6 p.m. throughout the concert series.

On July 9, Washington Park Wednesdays features a powerful, female-inclusive night of genre-defying music with performances by Urban Empress & The Urbanites and Nineteen Thirteen—two ensembles led by dynamic women artists.

Opening the evening is Zoongwe Dancers, a women-founded Native American dance group offering captivating performances that combine storytelling, traditional songs, and dances highlighting the vital role of women in Native American culture past, present, and future. On stage, Nineteen Thirteen, the innovative cello and drum duo known for its cinematic sound, blends classical elegance with rock energy and electronic textures. Then Urban Empress & The Urbanites – fronted by amazing vocalist Kristin Urbom – blend reggae, soul and hip-hop with a message of empowerment and unity, delivering a vibrant and uplifting performance rooted in rhythm and resistance. Together, they set the stage for a summer of music, movement and community.

Local vendors and food trucks—including several women- and femme-led businesses—will offer a variety of food and beverage options for purchase. Free meals will be available for all hungry children from the Milwaukee Center for Independence.
