Walker’s Road to Nowhere
"Who’s going to protect us from Walker’s raids?"
(MADISON) – Despite overwhelming evidence that the state’s infrastructure is decaying, that didn’t stop Governor Scott Walker from dipping into the Department of Transportation’s funds to redirect $90 million dollars towards Foxconn, a project that is already costing Wisconsin taxpayers roughly $4.5 billion.
In response to the announcement, Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement:
“It’s par for the course to see another one of Walker’s campaign promises crumble at a rate only matched by the Governor’s ability to quickly make another one. It saddens me that the taxpayer money set aside for the basic necessities of our state, from crucial state highways to the roads we teach our children to drive on, is being put towards Walker’s pet project.
“The people of this state are sick and tired of dealing with a Governor who claims he’s got their best interests in job creation, then fails to create a safe route for them to even get to work, while spending an additional $6.8 million to advertise those jobs to Illinois.
“During his reelection campaign in 2014, one of the Governor’s promises was to protect the transportation fund from “raids” that would take money set aside for projects like highway maintenance. Who’s going to protect us from Walker’s raids?’
