Violence unacceptable against parking checker just doing his job

Statement of Alderman Cavalier Johnson April 2, 2019

By - Apr 2nd, 2019 09:10 am

At approximately 2:30 a.m. today one of the parking checkers for the Department of Public Works was beaten and stabbed while on duty in the 2nd District near N. 67th and W. Villard Ave.

The incident is under investigation, but Milwaukee Police say the worker was issuing parking citations when he was approached by suspects who fought with him and then stabbed him. The worker was able to get away and drove himself to the MPD District 4 station on W. Silver Spring Drive, where he was then taken by ambulance to a hospital. He is listed in stable condition.

The attack on this worker was unacceptable and ANY assault of ANY city worker cannot and will not be tolerated. City workers are performing essential duties daily across Milwaukee, and they deserve our respect and kind courtesy.

I urge anyone with information about this incident to call MPD immediately at 414-935-7360.
