Village Of Mukwonago Seeks Grant For Acquisition Of Land

Grant Requested For Stewardship Project In Village Of Mukwonago

By - Nov 14th, 2024 10:09 am

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced the village of Mukwonago has applied for a 50% matching grant as part of the Urban Green Space subprogram of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program. The grant will assist with purchasing 2.2 acres of land in the village of Mukwonago in Waukesha County.

The village of Mukwonago plans to acquire 2.2 acres of land to expand shoreline access along the Mukwonago River and connect to the existing Indianhead Park via pedestrian bridge. Recreational opportunities include fishing, hiking and walking, picnicking and scenic enjoyment.

The DNR is proposing to make the determination that the prohibition of hunting and trapping is necessary to protect public safety due to the parcel’s proximity to residential dwellings and roadways.

The DNR’s initial assessment of the allowed nature-based outdoor activities may be downloaded from the Stewardship Public Notice webpage, or you may request a copy via email by contacting Luke Roffler at Luke.Roffler@wisconsin.gov.

The public is encouraged to submit written comments on the proposed acquisition by Dec. 5, 2024, to:

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
C/O Luke Roffler, DNR Grant Manager
141 NW Barstow St.
Waukesha, WI 53188
Luke.Roffler@wisconsin.gov or 608-294-8017

In accordance with s. NR 52.04 (2) (b), Wis. Adm. Code, objections about the hunting activities on this property must show the proposed prohibition to be inconsistent with s. 23.0916 (2) (b), Stats., and s. NR 52.05, Wis. Adm. Code.
