Video Release of MPD Officer Involved Shooting – June 20th, 2024

MILWAUKEE, WI— On Thursday, June 20, 2024, at approximately 2:23 p.m., Milwaukee Police officers attempted to conduct a felony stop at N.17th Street and W. Vliet Street. The vehicle stopped was wanted in connection to an attempted armed robbery carjacking that occurred on the 500 block of N. Broadway. The vehicle was also wanted in connection to an armed robbery carjacking that occurred earlier in the day in the 500 block of N. Jefferson Street.

The pursuit ended when the driver of the vehicle moved into the construction lane on I-43 near W. Vienna Avenue and was blocked by the construction and a cement truck. Several construction workers were working in this space during the incident.

MPD officers approached the vehicle, gave several commands to stop the vehicle and commanded the suspects to get out of the vehicle. The suspect driver reversed the vehicle striking a marked squad car. The suspect driver drove forward and then reversed the vehicle. An officer was located behind the vehicle. At this time, another officer discharged his firearm into the vehicle subsequently striking two suspects. A total of six suspects were in the vehicle. The suspect vehicle was determined to be a stolen auto and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle.

The gunshot-injured suspects are an 18-year-old Milwaukee female who has life-threatening injuries and a 17-year-old Milwaukee male who has serious injuries. The 18-year-old female was pregnant and unfortunately the baby did not survive. These suspects were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

All the suspects were arrested and criminal charges were issued by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. The officer involved in this incident remains on administrative duty.

To remain consistent with the Milwaukee Police Department’s Video Release Policy Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 575, MPD will release video for this incident in accordance to the format of SOP 575 instead of a community briefing.
