Video Release of MPD Officer Involved Shooting
MILWAUKEE, WI— On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at approximately 9:07 p.m., Milwaukee Police Department officers responded to the 6400 block of West Sheridan Avenue. Multiple callers reported an active shooter in a second-floor apartment. Callers described the suspect as a black male wearing a black ski mask, blue jacket, and black pants. While searching for the suspect, officers heard what they believed to be gunshots and advanced in that direction. Officers encountered a subject matching that description on the second floor stairwell. Two officers discharged their duty weapons, striking him. An AR-style pistol belonging to the suspect was recovered in the building.
The suspect, a 20-year-old male, was arrested and conveyed to a local hospital. He is expected to survive.
The officers involved in this incident are a 25-year-old male with over two years of service and a 30-year-old male with over eight years of service. They will be placed on administrative duty as is routine in an officer involved incident.
This is a fluid and ongoing investigation.
The Milwaukee Police Department’s Video Release Policy Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 575, establishes criteria for when video evidence that captures officer-involved incidents that result in death or great bodily harm will be released to the public. This policy is intended to balance important interests, including the public’s interest in transparency and police accountability, the necessity of preserving the integrity of criminal and administrative investigations, and the privacy interests of individuals depicted in such videos (including victims, witnesses, bystanders, and the individuals against whom force is used). This policy creates a presumption of release. It is our goal to release video in officer involved incidents according to SOP 575 within 15 days of the incident.
