VB Downed by No. 6 Wisconsin
Golden Eagles faced their third top-six opponent of the season.
MADISON, Wis. – The Marquette University volleyball team (3-5) fell to No. 6 Wisconsin (5-4) in four sets Thursday evening at the UW Fieldhouse.
Carson Tyler led Marquette offensively with 16 kills and added eight digs, two blocks and two service aces. Luanna Markus recorded 29 assists, five digs, four kills and three blocks, while Emma Parks chipped in six kills and three blocks. Molly Welge contributed seven blocks, and Emi Juric paced the back row with 10 digs while adding six assists and two service aces.
Marquette used an early run to take control of the opening set, turning a 5-5 tie into a 10-5 advantage behind strong work at the net on the offensive and defensive end. Wisconsin responded to even the frame at 11, but the Golden Eagles continued to answer, getting kills from Tyler, Markus and Keira Schmidt to regain the lead. After the Badgers pulled even again at 20, Emma Parks put Marquette back in front before Tani Juric delivered a kill for a 22-21 edge. Emi Juric followed with an ace to bring up set point, and Tani Juric closed the frame with her fourth kill of the set to give Marquette a 25-22 opening-set victory.
Wisconsin grabbed control midway through the second set, using a 5-0 run to turn a 7-5 Marquette lead into a 10-7 advantage. The Golden Eagles battled back behind Tyler, who recorded four of her five kills in the frame after Wisconsin took the lead, while Molly Welge and Tani Juric also added kills. Marquette pulled within four at 18-14 following a Wisconsin attack error, but the Badgers answered with three straight points and went on to even the match with a 25-17 second-set victory.
Marquette stayed within reach early in the third set, tying the frame at 5-5 before Wisconsin used a 6-0 run to build an 11-6 advantage. The Golden Eagles later mounted a push behind a Kowalski ace, and Emma Parks, whose kill trimmed the deficit to 18-14. Marquette made another late charge with four straight points, including an Allie Beers ace and Carson Tyler kill, to pull within 23-19. Wisconsin halted the rally with the final two points to take the third set, 25-19.
Marquette battled back after falling behind 15-9 in the fourth set, using an Avery Helms service ace and Carson Tyler kill to pull within three at 15-12. The Golden Eagles trimmed the deficit to two at 16-14 following a Wisconsin attack error, but the Badgers responded with four straight points to regain control at 20-14. Marquette was unable to mount another late run as Wisconsin closed the match with a 25-15 fourth-set victory.
NOTES
- MU falls to 3-27 all-time against the Badgers
- Marquette out-aced the Badgers, 8-6, the sixth time that the Golden Eagles have recorded more aces than their opponent
- Carson Tyler recorded 16 kills and continued her double-digit kill streak, recording the mark in all eight matches this season and every match dating back to Oct. 28, 2025.
- Emi Juric recorded 10 digs, her fourth-straight match with double-digit kills and the seventh of eight matches this season.
- Juric also surpassed her career-high with six assists
- Molly Welge recorded five plus blocks for the fourth time this season, finishing with a career-high seven blocks on the night.
- Welge’s seven blocks are the most in a match since Hattie Bray recorded nine blocks at Louisville in the NCAA Tournament second round on 12/6/2025.

Marquette returns to the Al McGuire Center for a pair of matches this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20. MU hosts St. Thomas on Saturday, and Milwaukee on Sunday to wrap the non-conference slate. Both matches start at 2 p.m. CT, and will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
