Upcoming 54-Hour Closure of Southbound Collector-Distributor Lanes in the Mitchell Interchange
As part of the ongoing Mitchell Interchange resurfacing and improvement project in Milwaukee County, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is notifying motorists of upcoming lane and ramp closures in the interchange.
9 P.M. Friday, May 1 – 3 A.M. Monday, May 4
- The southbound I-41/94 collector-distributor lanes between Layton Avenue and College Avenue will close for resurfacing work.
- All ramps within the southbound collector-distributor will also be closed during this time:
- Southbound I-43 system ramp to the southbound I-41/94 collector-distributor
- I-41/94 southbound on-ramp from Layton Avenue
- I-41/94 southbound off-ramp to WIS 119 (to MKE airport)
- I-41/94 southbound on-ramp from WIS 119 (from MKE airport)
- I-41/94 southbound off-ramp to College Avenue
Airport Access:
Southbound I-94/43/41 airport traffic should exit at Layton Avenue, go east on Layton Avenue, and turn south on WIS 38 (Howell Avenue) to reach to airport.
Eastbound I-894 airport traffic should exit at WIS 241 (27th Street), go south on WIS 241, turn east on Layton Avenue, and turn south on WIS 38 (Howell Avenue) to reach the airport.
When leaving the airport, southbound I-94/41 traffic should use WIS 38 (Howell Avenue), and turn west on College Avenue to the southbound I-41/94 on-ramp.
Northbound I-94/41 access to the airport will not be affected by this work.
What is a collector-distributor? A collector-distributor road runs parallel to the main travel lanes of a highway or interstate and connects it to ramps and frontage roads for improved safety, mobility, and traffic flow.
