Three Ukrainian Veterans to Visit Milwaukee, Featuring Special Book Presentation at Milwaukee Central Library
MILWAUKEE, WI — Wisconsin Ukrainians, Inc. will host a special book presentation and public conversation with three Ukrainian war veterans on September 20 at 1:00 PM at the Rotary Club Community Room at Milwaukee Central Library. The event offers the public a rare opportunity to hear firsthand accounts of the Revolution of Dignity and Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine from those who lived through it. Light refreshments will be provided.
The afternoon will center on Ukrainian author and veteran Mykola Melnyk, who will present his book My Maidan: War. Love. Struggle. Melnyk served as a company commander in the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was seriously wounded during the Zaporizhzhia counteroffensive. Following the presentation, he will hold a book signing, with copies of My Maidan: War. Love. Struggle. available for purchase on-site.
Melnyk will be joined for the public conversation by fellow veterans Denys Haida and Oleh Bonchynskyi. Haida defended Donetsk Airport as one of the famed “Cyborgs” and went on to fight on some of the war’s most difficult fronts, including Sloviansk, Avdiivka, and Zaporizhzhia. Bonchynskyi served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 2014 to 2025, fighting in key battles including Saur-Mohyla, Marinka, and Avdiivka, where he was seriously wounded.
