The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center Announced the Passing of Board Member Elena Gilbert Dominguez

June 03, 2023 MILWAUKEE, June 03, 2023 – The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center announces with great sadness that Elena Dominguez, a valued member of the organization’s Board of Directors, passed away last week, leaving behind a powerful legacy that inspired many to fight for trans justice.

Elena was an esteemed member of the organization for nearly 15 years, bringing broad experience to the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center. Elena’s professional career included robotics, automation, and machinery safety.

“Words can barely express the grief experienced by Milwaukee’s LGBTQIA+ community this week,” Ritchie T. Martin, Jr., Milwaukee LGBT Community Center Board Vice President, said in a June 1 st statement. “A proud trans Latina and natural leader, Elena was a role model and inspiration to countless professionals, including myself – and many elders too. Elena understood what fierce advocacy looked like and her commitment was unwavering”.

Kevin Turner-Espinoza, Executive Director of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center added, “Losing Elena is an unfathomable loss to the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center family. Elena was a ray of light, deeply passionate, deeply engaged, and deeply caring. Elena’s family and friends will always remember her hunger for justice, her eagerness to pitch in, her bright presence, and her indelible calmness during controversy and crisis.”

On behalf of our Board of Directors, executive management team and employees, we extend our deepest sympathies to Elena’s family. Elena was a larger-than-life figure who brought a remarkable passion, experience, and energy into everyone’s life. Memorial information in honor of Elena Dominguez will be forthcoming in the next few days.
