Task Force provides feedback for upcoming transportation budget
Monday’s meeting will cover the highway program and funding alternatives.
The second Transportation Stakeholder Task Force meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday, February 4, at the La Crosse WisDOT Region Office.
Governor Tony Evers directed Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Secretary-designee Craig Thompson to assemble a task force to provide feedback on priorities for the upcoming 2019-2021 transportation budget. The task force consists of key partners from all regions of the state, all sectors of the economy, and users of all different modes of transportation.
“The citizens of Wisconsin are looking for answers that will address the state’s wide-ranging transportation needs,” said Governor Evers. “It is important to find sustainable solutions that address these needs.”
The task force will play an important role in helping Thompson understand what the people of Wisconsin prioritize as transportation needs. “We want to hear from all these groups to understand how the transportation system impacts people and businesses throughout the state and what improvements they would like to see moving forward,” Thompson said.
During Thursday’s meeting, members were briefed on the current budget, opportunities and challenges impacting transit, bicycles, pedestrians, freight and passenger railroad, harbors, aeronautics and local programs. During breakout sessions, task force members identified various priorities and discussed potential recommendations.
Monday’s meeting will cover the highway program and funding alternatives.
Following Monday’s meeting, the information from the task force will be used to set priorities for transportation budget recommendations.
The La Crosse WisDOT office is located at 3550 Mormon Coulee Road. The meeting is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. More information on the Transportation Stakeholder Task Force is available on the WisDOT website: https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/about-wisdot/who-we-are/comm-couns/stakeholder-taskforce.aspx
