Supervisor Martin Mourns Major Harris, Commends Community’s Search Efforts

MILWAUKEE – On Thursday, 3-year-old Major P. Harris was found dead after family, police, and community members searched for the infant for nearly a week. County Supervisor Felesia A. Martin released the following statement regarding the death of Harris:

“I share in the absolute devastation of my community at the loss of Major Harris, whose death was ruled a homicide by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s office, and his mother Mallery Muenzenberger, who was shot to death and found on October 14.

“My heart aches but is thankful to every person who participated in Major’s search, including community activists Torrie Lowe and Vaun Mayes, and the Milwaukee Police Department. While the results of this search were not at all what we hoped for, I am overcome with emotion at how quickly and collectively our community responded to search efforts.

“Our push for an end to gun violence and a peaceful community for our children must not replace our need to mourn those lost to this violence. I ask the community to keep Major and his family, especially his father, in your thoughts and prayers this weekend.

“Our community has, unfortunately, faced a great deal of gun-related trauma, and I urge all our community leaders to consider how we can create safer homes, schools, and communities for our children. No mother, father, or family should ever have to live through the type of pain that Major’s family is living through now, and I know we – as a community – can come together to make that a reality.

“May we all continue to hold close to us those we love and cherish, and work toward the peaceful and thriving community we all deserve.”

Supervisor Martin was first elected in 2018. She represents several neighborhoods in the City of Milwaukee, including Dineen Park, Capitol Heights, Grasslyn Manor, Sunset Heights, Roosevelt Grove, Lincoln Creek, and Garden Homes.
