MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Supervisor Patti Logsdon today applauded the Committee on Parks and Culture’s approval of legislation modernizing County policy governing partnerships between the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Culture and nonprofit support organizations.

The ordinance updates Chapter 13 of the Milwaukee County Code of General Ordinances by establishing clear, transparent, and consistent standards for organizations that provide ongoing support to County Parks.

The legislation broadens the County’s definition of support groups beyond traditional “Friends Groups,” aligns County policy with Wisconsin law governing nonprofit organizations, clarifies when formal agreements are required, and establishes consistent expectations for accountability, financial reporting, and long-term partnerships. One of the ordinance’s central goals is to establish fair, transparent, and consistent policies while providing Milwaukee County Parks with clear procedures for entering into and terminating agreements with nonprofit partners. According to Logsdon:

“I’ve worked closely with Milwaukee County Parks throughout this process because our nonprofit partners and volunteer organizations are essential to the success of our park system,” said Supervisor Patti Logsdon. “I’m especially pleased that this ordinance establishes fair, transparent, and consistent policies that strengthen these partnerships while providing clear expectations for everyone involved. I’d also like to thank Supervisor Anne O’Connor for her collaboration and support in helping move these important updates forward. Together, we’ve worked to ensure our parks have a modern framework that encourages community involvement while protecting the public’s trust.”

The legislation is expected before the full Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors for consideration.
