Supervisor Haas Will End Decade-Long Tenure on Milwaukee County Board in April

MILWAUKEE – 14th District County Supervisor Jason Haas announced today that he will not seek another term on the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors in 2022.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of the Fighting 14th as their representative on the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors,” said Supervisor Haas.

“I am proud that I was able to be a part of so many projects that moved Milwaukee County forward. In 2013, we created the first public beer garden in America since the onset of prohibition. It has been great to see two Milwaukee County beer gardens—The Vine at Humboldt and South Shore Terrace—become a part of the fabric of Bay View.

“Food Truck Friday at Morgan Park brought 500 of our best friends to the little green triangle to enjoy the magic of music, socialization, and good food. My clever jingle, ‘Meet me at the corner of KK and Morgan!’ has yet to crack any Spotify playlists, likely because it has yet to be recorded.

“Despite facing a mounting structural deficit and capital project backlog, the County Board has been successful in adopting a balanced budget each year while avoiding any horrendous cuts to county services. But without sustained revenue such as a sales tax, the cost of operation will exceed revenues and deep programmatic cuts will likely be the only way to achieve our mandatory balanced budget.

“I would like to thank my colleagues, Milwaukee County staff, and most importantly my constituents for their help in making these initiatives, and so many more, come to life over the past decade.

“Former Alderman Terry Witkowski deserves a special shout out for being an incredible partner over the years. He and I led efforts to make vacant land at S. 6th Street and W. Howard Avenue into a vibrant community space. I am especially proud that we helped put a lot of smiles on people’s faces in this space each December with Winter Wonderland, an event I plan to remain involved with.

“I look forward to spending more time with my family and serving the community in another capacity.”

Supervisor Haas was first elected to the County Board in an April 2011 special election, and won re-election in 2012, 2016, 2018, and 2020. He serves as chair of the Finance Committee and spent four years as chair of the Committee on Parks, Energy & Environment.
