Milwaukee, WI (September 11, 2020) Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell R. Lucas released the following statement today regarding the tragic attacks on September 11, 2001.

“Today, we remember the 2,977 people who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. We join the families of those who lost their lives in remembering their loved ones. We share their sorrow, and we recognize the heroic first responders who rushed into danger on that fateful day, sacrificing everything so that others might be saved. Their service, joining boundless courage with devotion to duty, embodied the highest principles of our American democracy.

“Today, we join our nation and the world in paying tribute to the great Americans who responded to the attacks of September 11 through acts of civic service. We celebrate all who responded to the call to assist the more than 6,000 people who were injured in the attacks, and we honor the service of all who joined our Armed Forces to protect our nation.

“We honor, too, those who continue to run toward danger every day to protect our freedoms and serve in the field of public safety. We thank you for your service; we vow to remember the sacrifice of those we lost on September 11, 2001; and we promise never to forget.”
