Waukesha, Wisconsin – The Southeast Wisconsin Festival of Books has released its lineup of poetry presentations for the 13th Annual Festival, which will be held at the UW-Milwaukee at Waukesha campus November 5th.

The first poetry panel, at 10:15 am, will be “The Native American Experience through Poetry, the Law, and Memoir” in which authors Louis V. Clark III (Rebel Poet: More Stories from a 21st Century Indian), Kimberly Blaeser (Resister En Dansant) and Matthew Fletcher (The Ghost Road) express what it actually means to be Native American through the use of very different words.

At 12:15, “Connections in Contemporary Poetry” brings together poets Ed Werstein (Communique: Poems from the Headlines), Mary Catherine Harper (The Found Object Imagines a Life) and Elizabeth Hoover (The Archive is All in Present Tense) to illustrate contemporary poetry brings with it a variety of expressions and topics. These three poets will give examples of what it means to be a poet in our modern day.

At 1:45 pm, while there has been a lot of change for LGBTQ+ writers throughout history, there is one thing that always remains the same: “We Will Always Be Here.” Writers Dawn Burns (Evangelina Everyday), Martha Lundin (The In-Between State) and Kristen Whitson and Jenny Kalvaitis (We Will Always Be Here) discuss their own experiences in their own histories.

At 3:15 pm, “African America Poets: The Intersection of Identities & Ideals” features four unique poets describing what it means to combine their culture and heritage with the lyricism and imagery of poetry. Panelists are Keli Steward (Small Altars), I.S. Jones (Spells of My Name), Portia Cobb (Ukweli: Searching for Healing Truth), and Milwaukee Poet Laureate Mario Willis, and the panel is moderated by renowned Milwaukee author Dasha Kelly.

The Southeast Wisconsin Festival of Books is free and open to the public at the UWM at Waukesha. Parking is free in all campus parking lots. A complete schedule is available at the website.
