South Side District 11 Records Significant Reported Crime Reductions in 2025, Outpacing Citywide Trends

Year-end crime data show that Milwaukee’s 11th Aldermanic District experienced substantial reductions in serious crime during 2025, outperforming citywide trends across nearly every major category and delivering meaningful improvements in neighborhood safety.

District 11 saw sharp declines in violent crime, property crime, and auto-related offenses, including multiple categories that dropped to zero incidents for the year. These improvements occurred alongside citywide progress, but District 11 consistently achieved larger percentage reductions than the city as a whole.

Most notably, District 11 recorded a 100 percent reduction in homicides, non-fatal shootings, carjackings, and arson in 2025 compared to the previous year. Reports of rape declined by 56 percent, aggravated assaults fell by 35 percent, and burglaries decreased by 29 percent. Motor vehicle theft dropped by 41 percent, nearly double the citywide reduction rate.

“Public safety is not improved by chance,” said Alderman Peter Burgelis. “These results reflect sustained coordination between residents, law enforcement, city departments, and community partners. While there is still work to do, District 11 is clearly moving in the right direction.”

Alderman Burgelis also expressed appreciation for the leadership of Tim Leitzke, recognizing his emphasis on community policing, officer visibility, and the deployment of additional supervisory patrols within the 11th District.

“Captain Leitzke’s focus on proactive engagement, visible patrols, and strong supervision has made a real difference,” Burgelis said. “That kind of leadership builds trust and helps prevent crime before it happens.”

Citywide data also showed progress in 2025, including reductions in robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft, and motor vehicle theft. However, District 11’s reductions were steeper in nearly every comparable category, underscoring the effectiveness of targeted prevention, enforcement strategies, and neighborhood engagement.

“These numbers represent fewer victims, fewer families disrupted, and safer streets,” Burgelis added. “I remain committed to supporting smart, data-driven public-safety investments, traffic enforcement, violence prevention, and the neighborhood-level strategies that are delivering real results.”

Alderman Burgelis emphasized that continued progress will require sustained attention and investment. “Crime reduction is not something you declare finished,” he said. “It is something you protect, reinforce, and build on.”

District 11 will continue working closely with Milwaukee Police, community organizations, and residents to maintain momentum and ensure every neighborhood remains safe, stable, and connected.
