Sierra Club Applauds Governor Evers’s State Budget Proposal

Clean drinking water and access to the outdoors are great ways to celebrate the “Year of the Kid” in Wisconsin

Madison, WI – This week Governor Tony Evers gave his state budget address and announced his state budget. Elizabeth Ward, the Chapter Director of Sierra Club – Wisconsin, issued this statement in response:

“Governor Evers’s proposed budget is a great way to celebrate the ‘Year of the Kid.’ The Governor’s proposed budget will clean up the water, resource climate change response, and support outdoor recreation across the state. Every kid, every Wisconsinite deserves clean air and water and access to the outdoors.

We celebrate the Governor’s proposed investments in removing lead pipes, addressing PFAS pollution, reauthorizing the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship program, expanding energy efficiency programs and taking action on climate change.

Beyond that, the Governor increased funding for transit and specialized transportation, as well as providing funding for abatement programs to reduce damages to farmers from sandhill cranes and Wisconsin’s wolves.

We now look to the Republican-led Joint Finance Committee to put aside partisan politics and protect Wisconsinites’ health and our air, water, land and wildlife.”
