Shorewood Criterium Cycling Classic Celebrates 22nd Year
On Friday, June 26, the 22nd Annual Shorewood Criterium Classic, hosted by the Shorewood Business Improvement District and sponsored in part by the Shorewood Foundation, will bring excitement, competition, and family-friendly activities to Shorewood. Due to construction on Oakland Avenue, this year’s course has been relocated west of Oakland Avenue and will circle Lake Bluff Elementary School.
The Tour of America’s Dairyland 11-day competitive racing event brings riders from amateurs to professionals to communities in Southeast Wisconsin. Over the years, the race has grown in popularity, attracting competitors from 40 states and 15 countries.
Shorewood’s races, on day 9 of the tour, begin with the Junior cyclists at 10:45 a.m. and culminate with the Men’s Pro at 7:00 p.m. The start/finish line will be located just north of the intersection of Lake Bluff and Morris Boulevards. Riders will travel counterclockwise along Bartlett Avenue, Glendale Avenue, and Morris Boulevard, completing an approximately one-mile course.
The Kid’s Roll, beginning at 6:25 p.m., will feature a bike decoration station sponsored by The Slab and Pop & Joy, with registration support provided by North Shore Bank. Culver’s will be handing out free frozen custard after the races, so make sure to stick around for these sweet treats!
In addition to the popular Kid’s Roll, Shorewood will host the Dairyland Mile, organized by Infinity Running during the Community Hour. Visit the Shorewood Business Improvement District website for more details and a link to register for both the running race and kids’ races.
New this year, spectators can enjoy a food truck court featuring:
- Flour Girl & Flame
- Fatty Patty
- Forage Kitchen
- MKE Bento
- Tots on the Street
- Emmanuel’s Mix
- Cottonmouth Cotton Candy
- Cocina Filipina
- Ventura’s Tacos
- H&M Concessions
Three Lions Pub and Draft & Vessel will be serving drinks near the start and finish line as well. Come for the races, stay for the food and drink.
The Shorewood Criterium Cycling Classic promises a full day of high-speed racing, family activities, food, and community spirit. Whether attending as a competitor or spectator, visitors will find one of Shorewood’s premier summer events. For more information, go to shorewoodwi.com.
