LA CROSSE – Wisconsin State Senator Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) was named one of the “40 Most Interesting Women in Politics” by The Washington Post this week. The list of women included notable leaders such as U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Senior White House Advisor Valerie Jarrett and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.“Women are making history in Wisconsin and across our country, and I’m proud to be a part of this movement,” said Sen. Shilling. “Although progress has been made, women in America continue to face an uphill battle in the fight for workplace protections, access to health care and equal pay.”

“As a mom with a minivan, I continue to be inspired by the hardworking women across Wisconsin who are shattering glass ceilings and opening new doors of opportunity for our next generation of leaders,” Shilling added. “These women may see themselves as everyday people, but I see them as extraordinary role models who are accomplishing things many thought impossible just a few decades ago.”

The Washington Post list was compiled from suggestions by women’s groups, social media and political followers. To see the complete list, individuals can visit: http://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/most-interesting-women-in-politics/
