Sendoff set as MPS’ Rufus King Generals boys basketball team heads for state
Pep rally to be held Thursday, March 13 at 8:15 a.m. before Friday game
The five-time state champion boys basketball team from Milwaukee Public Schools’ Rufus King International School – High School Campus will be shooting for a sixth title this weekend as the team heads to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletics Association (WIAA) state tournament in Madison.
Rufus King beat out previously-undefeated Brookfield Central High School in overtime and then topped Racine’s Case High School in double overtime to advance to the tournament.
The Generals will take on two-time defending state champion Germantown High School on Friday at 6:35 p.m. at the Kohl Center in Madison. The winner of that game will advance to the Division 1 state championship game Saturday night at approximately 8:15 p.m., taking on the winner of the Mukwonago High School – Neenah High School matchup.
Rufus King will be sending the team off with a short pep rally on Thursday, March 13 at 8:15 a.m. at the school, 1801 W. Olive Street, Milwaukee 53209. MPS Superintendent Gregory Thornton and MPS Athletics Commissioner Bill Molbeck will join school leaders at the sendoff. Media are welcome to attend.
“We are proud of the way of our students have played,” Rufus King Principal Jennifer Smith said. “Their commitment to teamwork and the amount of passion they brought to their games has been clear in their overtime and double overtime playoff wins!”
MPS congratulates the Generals players, longtime Coach Jim Gosz and Rufus King Athletic Director Jeremy Nichols — wishes them the best of luck this weekend!

Hi Jeremy Nichols! I was a student if yours for US history sophomore year in 2010. I’m going for my masters in athletic training from 2016-2018 and just seeing if King needed a trainer after that. I am very interested in working with MPS and would love to be an athletic trainer for the high school students. Let me know!
Thanks
Andrea
