Senator Mark Spreitzer Reacts to 2026 State of the State Address From Governor Tony Evers
MADISON – Tonight, Governor Tony Evers delivered his eighth, and final, State of the State Address before the Wisconsin State Legislature. State Senator Mark Spreitzer (D-Beloit) released the following statement after the Governor’s address:
“And while this was the Governor’s last State of the State, he did not just use his time to reflect on the achievements of the last seven years – he also laid out a vision for a robust legislative agenda that would continue to move Wisconsin forward in 2026. He highlighted issues where the Republican leadership in the legislature has failed to find bipartisan solutions, like reauthorizing the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship program, addressing lead and PFAS contamination across the state, protecting Wisconsinites from skyrocketing healthcare costs caused by the Trump Administration, and ensuring the State pays its fair share of special education funding. These are big issues that we must tackle, but Republicans have announced that they intend to – once again – end the legislative session early, even though so much work remains to be done.
“I thank the Governor for pushing the legislature to do more for our state through the very end of his term. Inaction isn’t free, and failing to do the work of our state has real consequences. I will not stand by while services for Wisconsin veterans, farmers, and families are threatened. I am ready to work with my colleagues at any time – whether in April, August, or December – for the betterment of our state and on behalf of the people who call the 15th Senate District home.”
