Senator Baldwin Statement on the Indictment of Senator Bob Menendez
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) released the following statement:
“The indictment spells out deeply troubling allegations against Senator Menendez that breach the American people’s trust and compromise his ability to effectively represent his constituents. While Senator Menendez enjoys the presumption of innocence until proven guilty and will have his day in court to defend himself, I believe it’s best for his constituents, the American people, and our national security for the Senator to step down.”An online version of this release is available here.

Tammy, if you really believe in the presumption of innocence, why are you calling for this man to resign? I think he is up to no good, but my thinking and his actual possible guilt are not the same. The US Supreme Court has narrowed the definition of bribery to the point that only testimony or film of Senator Menendez taking gold bars or cash while doing something corrupt may net a conviction.
I don’t recall you ever calling for Senator John McCain to resign. And he was busted taking huge amounts of cash to prop up a crooked Savings and Loan. The proof was 100% beyond doubt. I suggest you get back to work on making Wisconsin a better place to live instead of making pious comments to get free publicity.
