Senator Baldwin Releases Statement on Continuing Chaos of Donald Trump’s Trade War
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) released the following statement as President Donald Trump’s global trade war continues to raise prices and cause confusion for Wisconsin businesses and consumers.
“Wisconsin farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses are the beating heart of our state’s economy, employing thousands of Wisconsinites, attracting top talent to our state, and making world class products that put us on the map across the globe. But, for nearly four months, our Made in Wisconsin businesses have been left in limbo, unable to plan for the future as Donald Trump’s self-imposed Trade War drags on. Tariffs are a useful tool to hold trade cheats accountable and level the playing field for American workers, but President Trump’s across-the-board, scattershot approach has only increased costs and caused chaos for Wisconsin businesses and consumers,” said Senator Baldwin. “I’ve heard from farmers paying through the nose for inputs like fertilizer, manufacturers struggling to afford necessary imports and delaying investments, and small businesses putting a pause on hiring because they aren’t sure what next month will hold. It’s time for President Trump to admit his Trade War has failed before Wisconsin businesses, farmers, and working families are slapped with even higher costs.”Senator Baldwin has been a vocal opponent of Donald Trump’s Trade War, meeting with businesses and farmers across Wisconsin to learn about how the President’s economic policy is hurting their bottom lines. In March, Senator Baldwin sent a letter to President Trump outlining the details of her wishes for a trade agenda that centers workers, stands up to trade cheats like China, and grows the American manufacturing sector.
