Milwaukee, July 26, 2021…. Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel, an award-winning hotel owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, today announced Samantha Timm has been promoted to curator. In this role, she will inspire Saint Kate’s artistic vision in its six everchanging exhibitions as well as lead and develop exclusive art engagement and programming for visitors and guests alike.

“We are thrilled to have Samantha Timm as our lead curator,” said Linda Marcus, one of Saint Kate’s visionaries and a nationally recognized multi-disciplinary artist, designer and storyteller. “Ms. Timm has the unique perspective and ability to bring each artist’s work to life. The result, compelling exhibitions that leave the public and our guests enlightened and moved.”

Timm’s career in the arts began at the Chazen Museum of Art in Madison, Wisconsin as curatorial assistant for its approximately 23,000 works of art covering diverse historical periods, cultures and geographies. She has also held various positions at art museums in the New York City area, including Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, an internationally renowned art museum devoted to 20th century art, and Winter Antiques Show, a leading art, antiques and design fair featuring experts in the fine and decorative arts. Prior to Saint Kate, Timm was curator for Jewel Spiegel Gallery in Englewood, New Jersey, which holds a collection of old, fine and decorative prints. Her strong background in both art history and contemporary art brought her to Saint Kate as art historian in April 2019 and co-curator with Marcus in October 2020. In addition to her breadth of experience in the arts, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and a master’s degree in History of Art from the University of York in York, England.

“I’m so excited to bring my vision to life at Saint Kate,” said Timm. “Throughout my career, and especially with Linda as my mentor, I’ve had the opportunity to engage with inspiring artists and tell their stories through collaboratively curated exhibitions and intimate, one-on-one opportunities with guests. I’m looking forward to continuing this work as well as partnering with artists and guest curators to bring meaningful and cohesive experiences to everyone who enters Saint Kate.”

Recognized as Milwaukee’s most exciting hotel, Saint Kate is among the first in the nation to broadly celebrate art in its many forms – from painting and sculpture to music, poetry, and performing arts. Saint Kate holds a permanent art collection throughout the hotel featuring local, national and international artists. It is also home to six rotating exhibitions that showcase emerging artists as well as artists at the forefront of their fields as they push boundaries and find innovative ways to tell their stories, sometimes through multiple art forms or by collaborating with an artist of another medium. Additionally, Saint Kate is home to the Museum of Wisconsin Art’s first downtown location, MOWA | DTN

Saint Kate’s current exhibitions include “Dear Ruth” by The Everday Feminist; “Hanging Out the Laundry” by Maeve Jackson; “The Money $how,” which is created by Frank Juarez and Ric Kasini Kadour; “Destination Unknown” by Anne Spalter; and “Artists Without Borders: Reflections on Art and Place” from MOWA DTN. Under Timm’s leadership, new exhibitions will open on August 14, 2021, where guests can visit The Gallery to view Judy Pfaff’s “End of the Rain” exhibit as well as Swoon’s “Tender” exhibit on view in The Vitrine. Both are from guest curators J. Myszka Lewis and Sona Pastel Daneshgar from Tandem Press, a Madison-based professional printmaking studio and gallery, and showcase internationally known artists whose pieces elicit deep connections with guests.

In addition to its permanent art collection and exhibitions, Saint Kate creates intimate and immersive arts experience for visitors through unique programming and partnerships with local arts organizations. In her role, Timm will continue to lead the hotel’s champagne art tours where visitors can explore Saint Kate’s art collection and special exhibitions. She will also host a joint walking tour series with Sculpture Milwaukee, a non-profit organization transforming downtown Milwaukee’s cultural landscape with an outdoor exhibition of world-renowned sculpture. This tour will begin at Saint Kate to view the hotel’s sculptural work before leading guests to Sculpture Milwaukee’s pieces throughout the city.
