Feingold served in the U.S. Senate from 1993 to 2011 where he fought to improve care for veterans, fought against unfair trade agreements that ship American jobs overseas and promoted the growth of Wisconsin’s economy.

As a senator, Feingold visited each of Wisconsin’s 72 counties every year to listen to the people of Wisconsin and turn their ideas into results.

Transcript of Feingold’s campaign announcement is available here:

“I’m Russ Feingold.

“We need to get started fixing all this.

“People tell me all the time that our politics and Washington are broken. And that multi-millionaires, billionaires, and big corporations are calling the shots. They especially say this about the U.S. Senate, and it’s hard not to agree. But what are we going to do? Get rid of the Senate?

“Actually, no one I’ve listened to says we should throw in the towel and give up — and I don’t think that either. Instead, let’s fight together for change. That means helping to bring back to the U.S. Senate strong independence, bipartisanship and honesty.

“So, today I am pleased to announce that I am planning to run for the United States Senate in 2016.

“This effort begins with listening to you.

“Right now I’m at my home in Middleton, Wisconsin. Beginning this summer, I will be hitting the road from here, traveling to communities all across the state, listening carefully to my fellow Wisconsinites talk about their concerns, especially when it comes to their economic well-being.

“I believe we should understand and honor everyone’s hard work and that people should be rewarded for it.

“I admire Wisconsinites’ optimism and determination. And my desire to serve is stronger than ever.

“I love Wisconsin. I love the spirit of the people here and the beautiful state we all cherish. I know that working together we can make great things possible again.

“But, I need your help so we can get started!

    Later Ron Johnson. Good riddance.

  2. TF says:

Thank God. Hoping for a win in 2016, which isn’t too unrealistic if the polls prove correct.

  3. Allison says:

Don’t the Dems have anyone new?

  4. PMD says:

Is that the best criticism you’ve got Allison? If so it’s pretty weak.

  5. PMD says:

The answer is no, of course, but it’s still no reason not to support Feingold over Johnson. What’s Ron done in the last 5 years other than file a lawsuit over Obamacare?

  6. Theresa Finnegan Vale says:
