Ron Johnson Doubles Down Against Hometown Jobs

Yesterday, Ron Johnson reiterated his opposition to making sure that 1,000 new Oshkosh Corp. manufacturing jobs are located in his adopted hometown of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, rather than in South Carolina.

During a Thursday morning interview with WIND-AM, Johnson again said that he won’t fight for Wisconsin jobs — and then proceed to make excuses and blame others, rather than take ownership for his own position.

Throughout the week, Johnson has defended his comments — first made last Saturday — that he wouldn’t fight for Wisconsin workers and job-creation because “It’s not like we don’t have enough jobs here in Wisconsin.”

Responding to Johnson, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, a leading advocate for the Oshkosh jobs to be based in Wisconsin, said, “I’m very disappointed that Senator Johnson doesn’t support creating jobs in his own hometown instead of South Carolina.”

And concerned workers in Oshkosh are likewise speaking out. According to WBAY-TV, which covers Wisconsin’s Fox Valley, including Oshkosh, Tim Jacobson, chief steward of UAW Local 578 affirmed, “We’re Wisconsinites. We expect a company that’s named after our hometown would have the decency to keep the jobs here,” adding, “We’ve already felt the pain of outsourcing to other countries now we’re fighting against having our jobs outsourced to another state.”

For his part, when not opposing Wisconsin job creation, Ron Johnson is a vocal advocate for such outsourcing to other countries.
