Republicans on Joint Finance Strip Hundreds of Proposals from Gov. Evers’ Budget
MADISON, WI – Earlier today, Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee filed a motion to eliminate hundreds of funding proposals vital to Wisconsinites’ well-being and future security from the Governor’s 2025-27 Executive Budget–including funding aimed at lowering costs and improving lives for Wisconsin families. Examples of programs removed include: state funding needed to keep the state’s child care industry intact, funding for PFAS remediation and lead removal in drinking water, and investments in public education.

Senator Habush Sinykin released the following statement:
“Governor Evers put together a thoughtful, strategic budget aimed at lowering costs and strengthening our communities with long-awaited investments in our public schools, drinking water quality, and child care network–investments that are critically needed to keep and attract young families and a vital workforce to Wisconsin. The Governor’s budget priorities aligned with the priorities voiced by the hundreds of community members who testified before the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) in West Allis in April and those who attended the series of budget listening sessions I hosted across the 8th Senate District.
“I am committed to advocating for and passing a budget within an appropriate timeline that will lower costs for Wisconsin families and strengthen our communities. I look forward to the legislative negotiations and floor sessions to come that will bring us closer to a stronger, more resilient Wisconsin.”
