Republican Caucus Continues to Shrink as Sen. Jacque Calls It Quits
MADISON, WI – News today of State Senator Andre Jacque’s retirement marks the sixth high-profile Republican Senate caucus retirement since the beginning of the year. At the beginning of 2026, Wisconsin Republicans had 12 members of the Senate up for reelection; in recent months, that number has been cut in half due to the overwhelming number of retirements.
SSDC Communications Director Will Karcz on Sen. Jacque’s retirement:
“As Senate Democrats are campaigning across the state on cutting costs and addressing the needs of Wisconsin residents, Senate Republicans are retiring en masse to avoid losing at the ballot box in November. While Republicans jump off their sinking ship, Senate Democrats are focused on the issues that Wisconsinites care about and are making it clear they have a plan to deliver results when they win a majority in November.”
The running list of Republican retirements now includes:
- André Jacque (SD-1)
- Rob Hutton (SD-5)
- Stephen Nass (SD-11)
- Devin LeMahieu (SD-9)
- Van Wanggaard (SD-21)
- Jesse James (SD-23)
