Representative Piwowarczyk to Lead New Task Force Focused on Modernizing Wisconsin Government

Madison- Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has appointed Representative Jim Piwowarczyk to chair the newly created Speaker’s Task Force on Government Efficiency and Modernization, a group tasked with exploring how Wisconsin can use technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), to make government work better for everyone.

“I’m grateful to Speaker Vos for the opportunity to lead this effort,” said Rep. Piwowarczyk.  “Government should be effective, but it should also be efficient. This task force is about examining how we can modernize outdated systems, cut down on waste, and deliver services the people of Wisconsin deserve.”

The task force will take a close look at how state agencies currently operate and identify where smarter technology can reduce costs, improve service, and eliminate unnecessary red tape. That includes everything from automating repetitive paperwork to using AI to improve fraud detection and customer service.

Right now, many state agencies are using systems that are expensive to maintain and don’t communicate well with one another. Citizens often have to submit the same information multiple times to different departments—slowing things down and driving up costs.

Rep. Piwowarczyk said the task force will focus on:

  • Replacing outdated, redundant processes with modern tools.
  • Reducing administrative overhead through automation.
  • Integrating systems across agencies to avoid duplicate work.
  • Using data to predict demand and allocate resources more effectively.

“Roughly one in eight workers in Wisconsin is employed in state or local government,” Rep. Piwowarczyk added. “Even small improvements in efficiency can make a big difference—not just in cost savings, but in how quickly and effectively we serve the public.”

The task force will begin its work in the coming months and will hold public hearings to hear directly from agencies, experts, and the public before making recommendations to the Legislature.
