MADISON – State Representative Evan Goyke (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement in commemoration of Vietnam Veterans Day 2014:

“Today we honor the courageous Wisconsin men and women who served our country during the Vietnam War. During this period of conflict, 165,400 Wisconsin citizens served in uniform and 1,239 lost their lives defending freedom abroad. We are forever grateful for their service.”

“The 18th Assembly District is home to many veterans and their families. Their contributions to the community after their service have had a lasting impact and can be seen today. As we all know, veterans are an integral part of a community’s energy, drive, and success. Their dedication cannot be overstated.”

“Many people do not know that April is the ‘Month of the Military Child.’ As we honor our veterans it is also essential to recognize the sacrifices made by the loved ones and family members of our military personnel.”

“On behalf of the State of Wisconsin and the residents of the 18th Assembly District I would like to thank all veterans of the Vietnam War for their honorable service and sacrifices.”
