Rep. Tenorio: Assembly GOP Blocking Their Own Women’s Health Bills

“The Majority Party has been given a winning hand to pass this legislation and yet nothing to show for it.” - Rep. Angelito Tenorio

MADISON — Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly met on the floor for the second time this week to vote. The proposed calendar detailed a broad range of bills from the deregulation of amusement rides located at campgrounds (AB243) to a property tax exemption for prefabricated recreational structures (AB584). Debate stalled often, broken up by long windows of Republican partisan caucus. After over six hours, only a handful of bills had been voted on.

Wisconsin State Representative Angelito Tenorio (D-14) released the following statement:

“It is disconcerting to see the chaos of the Trump Administration reflected in our state’s Majority Party. Assembly Republicans have been clear that the number of remaining floor sessions we have are limited. Yet, the ones of this week have been deeply mismanaged: full of skipped bills and failing to bring forth legislation to address the very real affordability crisis facing Wisconsin residents. This is a legislature in no place to end session anytime soon.”

Reflecting on bills that he would like to see brought to the floor, Representative Tenorio added:

“It was particularly frustrating to see postpartum care (AB97) and comprehensive breast cancer screening, also known as Gail’s Law (AB263), conspicuously absent. Speaker Vos has been instrumental in blocking these bills, but the full weight of our state’s ire cannot be placed on him alone. The reality is that there is an entire caucus of Assembly Republicans that refuse to stand against him. These bills are bipartisan, with Republican authors, in a Republican-controlled legislature. The Majority Party has been given a winning hand to pass this legislation and yet nothing to show for it. That is significant.”

As of 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 the Wisconsin State Assembly remains in recess for partisan caucus.
