Rep. Scott Fitzgerald Issues Statement on President Biden’s Cancellation of Student Loans

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement in response to President Biden‘s student loan giveaway:

“President Biden’s decision to cancel student loan debt is not only against the law but egregiously unfair to Americans who paid back their loans or pursued careers that don’t require a four-year degree. This action is particularly insulting to Wisconsinites who, per borrower, have among the lowest amount of student loan debt in the country, meaning our tax dollars will pay off the student loans of people in other states disproportionately.

The price of a college degree has become unattainable for many Americans. Instead of addressing soaring tuition and the root causes of education becoming more costly, this move simply shifts the burden of $300 billion in debt onto the American taxpayer. This is the latest attempt by the Biden administration to appease coastal progressives, as the prime beneficiaries of this decision fall in the top 60 percent of income earners, not the working class as they have advertised, said Congressman Fitzgerald.

Some US members of Congress and wealthy celebrities (Tom Brady, Kanye West, Kardashians etc. etc.) had million dollar loans forgiven as part of the wildly corrupt PPP (payroll protection plan) loan program. (PPP loan forgiveness totaled $750B). But repugnant Republicans like Fitzgerald and Faux News are outraged about students getting $10K trimmed off their excessively high tuition costs as part of the $300B student loan forgiveness.

(FYI ProPublica has a website tracking all the PPP loan forgiveness, so many got so much for who knows what reasons).

Fitzgerald is a ‘putz’ and a symbol of republican superficiality and complete lack of concern for the middle class and those who strive to better themselves.

Lord these guys are awful in their conceit and egotism.

Does Rep Fitzgerald realize that maybe
–if corporations paid reasonable taxes (most large ones don’t pay any),
–if the previous administration hadn’t given them huge tax break,
–if so many PPP loans didn’t go to already wealthy folks,
–if we reduced many corporate subsidies,
–if during the Republican administrations they had investigated soaring tuitions, etc etc
that President Biden wouldn’t have had to do this. Largely because of Republicans we as lowly tax payers continue to line the pockets of many wealthy folks and THEY (that is those wealthy folks) complain bitterly about fairness – how ironic!

I don’t understand why we aren’t seeing something from Mike Van Someren – the other candidate for Wisconsin 5th Congressional District.

Has anyone ever taken a hard look at Congressman Fitzgerald’s voting record?

HR 5428 School Shooting Safety Preparedness Act would have required that the Secretary of Education publish at least annually a report a list of school shootings including number of people killed, injured, time of the shooting, information on the victim and shooter, and type of weapon used. Seems like a good idea to gather information so that the problem can be fully understood. Sadly – Representative Fitzgerald doesn’t agree. In Committee Representative Fitzgerald votes against HR 5428.

Then there is HR 3110 the Pump Act that provides accommodations for women that have to go back to work – and need to pump breast milk. No free lunch – the woman isn’t paid for the time she is pumping. All the law provides for is time off – without pay and that there should be a place. Fitzgerald didn’t show up at the Committee Markup – but, on the House Vote – Fitzgerald votes NO. The pill does pass with 217 Democratic YES and 59 Republican YES.

HR 7701 Wage Theft Prevention and Recovery Act – another easy-to-understand law. Employers would be required to provide the employee with a document explaining how they are paid – salary, per hour, by the piece, overtime; a pay stub that provided information on hours worked, deductions, and reimbursement for meals, etc.; and when you leave the job any pay due needs to given to the employee within fourteen days. Nothing complicated – Mr. Fitzgerald voted NO. At the committee hearing a small business owner explained that this law would help small business – easy to understand requirements and penalties for businesses that aren’t doing the right thing.

I am a retired US Army and Fitzgerald isn’t interest in the failure in Afghanistan or holding those responsible accountable. Let me know if you are interested in supporting details.
