Rep. Robyn Vining Responds to Yet Another School Shooting
“Children Should Feel Safe At School.”
MADISON– Yesterday two children were tragically killed and 17 people were injured in a shooting at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) issued the following statement:
“Children should feel safe at school. Gun violence is a public health crisis, and as lawmakers, we must act.
“As the elected adults who have been entrusted to represent Wisconsin children and families in the state legislature, it is our job to ensure that as children prepare to return to school, that they are free from gun violence.
“As the elected leaders who have been entrusted to represent Wisconsin children and families in the state legislature, it is our job to ensure that families are free from gun violence.
“As the elected leaders who have been entrusted to represent Wisconsin teachers and educational staff, it is our job to ensure that schools are free from gun violence.
“The answer isn’t waiting. The answer isn’t excuses. The answer isn’t telling small children it’s their job to protect each other. The answer isn’t telling teachers how to jam the door and hide their students. Gun violence is a public health crisis–teachers, students, families, educational staff, first responders and medical professionals deserve better from elected leaders. We must take legislative action. Forward, together.”
Rep. Vining represents the 13th Assembly District, which includes Elm Grove, and parts of Wauwatosa and Brookfield. For more information visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
