Rep. Bowen Statement on Inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris

MILWAUKEE – State Rep. David Bowen (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement in reaction to the Inauguration of President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. and Vice President Kamala Devi Harris earlier today:

“I am overjoyed at the hope and promise that today’s inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris brings to our country. There is a long road ahead, work to be done, and wounds to heal, but I know that in President Biden and Vice President Harris we have steady and compassionate leadership in the highest offices in the land. For the first time ever, a President recognized at the Inaugural Podium the harmful legacy that white supremacy has had on our country, and we have a Vice President who will bring a lifetime of personal experience to the task of combating and dismantling that dark legacy. As President Biden said this morning, it’s a new day in America. And what a day it is.”

Earlier today, President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. and Vice President Kamala Devi Harris were inaugurated as the 46th President and 49th Vice President of the United States. President Biden made history as the 15th former Vice President to become President and as the oldest person to assume the office of President, while Vice President Harris, the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants, made history as the first female Vice President, first Black Vice President, and first Asian-American Vice President in American history.

“Furthermore, it is affirming beyond words to witness Vice President Kamala Harris, an amazing Black woman and fellow Jamaican-American assume the second highest office in the country! The United States of America is the leader of the free, industrialized world, and her ability to help lead at such a time as this, with President Biden entrusting her completely, speaks volumes to the value we place on leadership with a unique lens, that will serve all citizens who need and deserve change. I look forward to the renewed leadership the Biden-Harris Administration will bring to our country, and I am beyond ready to work with this Administration to bring needed and lasting change to America!”
