MILWAUKEE (March 27, 2023)Radio Milwaukee will bring back its free, weekly concert series under a new name, “State of Sound,” the station announced Monday. The new name represents the intention to book and showcase talent from across the state with a deep commitment to artists that call southeastern Wisconsin home.

“To say we are ‘excited’ to bring back weekly live music to our Walker’s Point home is an understatement,” said 88Nine Program Director Dori Zori. “This programming and opportunity to support Wisconsin-made music is core to our Radio Milwaukee mission and we cannot wait to host you all each week.”

“State of Sound” will debut on Thursday, April 6 at the station’s Walker’s Point studios (220 E. Pittsburgh Ave) with a double bill featuring alternative hip-hop artist NilexNile and indie-pop group Holy Pinto.

The lineup for the remainder of April is as follows:

  • Thursday, April 13 – Diet Lite, garage rock and power pop band
  • Thursday, April 20 – Trapper Schoepp, Americana singer-songwriter
  • Thursday, April 27 – Felix Ramsey, singer-songwriter with alternative and R&B inspiration

Kenny Perez, 88Nine assistant program director and afternoon drive host, is responsible for lineup curation and will also host and interview artists for each show.

“Supporting our local music community is one of the most important things we do as an organization,” said Perez. “I am incredibly honored to be a part of bringing this accessible programming back to our listeners and cannot wait to play witness to the amazing talent Wisconsin has to offer.”

Previously known as “414 Live,” the weekly concert series was paused in March of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Doors for each show will open at 5 p.m. and music will begin at 5:30 p.m. All performances and interviews are family-friendly; and will be broadcast live on 88.9FM, RadioMilwauke.org and the Radio Milwaukee mobile app.

In addition to performances and interview conversations, “State of Sound” will feature collaborations with community partners for each event. On April 6, Radio Milwaukee will welcome Leaders Igniting Transformation and, on April 13, the station will welcome Girls Rock MKE.

Wisconsin-based artists interested in performing at “State of Sound” are encouraged to submit their music and upcoming projects for consideration at radiomilwaukee.org/show/state-of-sound.
