Pulitzer Prize winning authors to go ‘On the Issues’ Oct. 5 to discuss the state of working-class America

MILWAUKEE — Nick Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, Pulitzer Prize winning authors of “Tightrope: Americans Reaching for Hope,” will be featured guests for a virtual “On the Issues with Mike Gousha,” Monday, Oct. 5. The video will be available at 12:15 p.m. on the Marquette University Law School website.
The authors will discuss their most recent book, which focuses on the state of working-class America, which in recent decades has experienced stagnant wages, the disappearance of blue-collar jobs, the ravages of a drug epidemic, and public policy that did little to address this unraveling. Kristoff and WuDunn tell the personal stories of individuals just trying to stay afloat and struggling communities uncertain about the future, but also stories of hope and resurgence, as well as policy prescriptions to strengthen America by strengthening each American.
Kristof and WuDunn are the first husband and wife to share a Pulitzer Prize for journalism and the co-authors of four previous books, including the national best-seller “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.” Kristof is an op-ed columnist for The New York Times and a former bureau chief in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo. WuDunn worked at the New York Times as a business editor and foreign correspondent in Tokyo and Beijing, and now works in finance and consulting.
The virtual “On the Issues” is available to members of the general public.
Through public programming such as the Marquette Law School Poll, debates featuring candidates in significant political races, Gousha’s “On the Issues” conversations with newsmakers, public lectures by leading scholars, conferences on significant issues of public importance and the work of its Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education, the Law School serves as the region’s leading venue for serious civil discourse about law and public policy matters.
