Proposal allows strip clubs in over 200 possible sites and takes away public input!
Statement of Alderman Terry L. Witkowski June 6, 2017
In the worst example of government transparency I have seen, a file was filled this morning to create an ordinance that would entitle strip clubs to locate in over 200 locations in the city as well as take away public input into their locations. The measure (see attached) would accomplish this with a companion zoning ordinance that would broadly decide where they can be by zoning class. Once zoning is approved in this city-wide measure, citizens, business owners and Business Improvement Districts have no say in the matter! Neither does the local Alderman who will not vote on these matters since it would be a permitted use under the law! So what, if it affects your neighborhood or the investment you made in your business or area!
Today’s proposal left little time to react or ask for research as to how it would affect an area let alone get a good understanding of the 8 page ordinance. For some reason, suddenly we have to rush laws permitting strip clubs through! I don’t recall any residents requesting more strip clubs.
I would ask the committee to kill this matter that takes away public input!
