MILWAUKEE – Port Milwaukee has earned the Robert J. Lewis Pacesetter Award from the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, an operating administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The Pacesetter Award recognizes ports in the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway that realize an annual increase in international cargo. This is Port Milwaukee’s 15th Pacesetter Award.

Port Milwaukee witnessed 2022 international tonnage levels grow by 28% over 2021, as negative pandemic-related economic impacts eased. The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway continues to be a vital supply chain for regional manufacturers, growers and producers to access global markets.

“Port Milwaukee supports the role our city plays as the economic engine for the State of Wisconsin. In 2022, regional businesses and customers relied on the efficient connections that the Port provides,” said Mayor Cavalier Johnson. “Port Milwaukee helps facilitate local commerce and adds value to our economy, and I am looking forward to more great results in the years ahead.”

“The Pacesetter Award honors growth in international shipments, and year after year, sustained growth is Port Milwaukee’s strategic goal,” said Port Milwaukee Director Jackie Q. Carter. “This national honor comes at the perfect time, as we further realize our full potential and expand our multimodal capabilities on Jones Island. Port Milwaukee will keep working to create jobs and revenue, deploy transportation solutions for our customers, and support business needs around the globe, as we move our maritime economy into the future.”
