Paul Ryan’s Retirement in 2018 Is Inevitable

Cathy Myers says Speaker Ryan’s retirement is due to recent election results nationwide and fear of women holding him accountable for his policies

By - Dec 14th, 2017 02:37 pm

Today’s report that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is considering retirement came as no surprise to the woman running against him. Cathy Myers, a 24-year teacher who represents Ryan on the Janesville School Board, said that his decision was due to a nationwide movement of women who are demanding a seat at the table in response to Donald Trump’s election.

“Paul Ryan is on his way out because he sees what is happening nationwide, and knows Wisconsin’s 1st District will be no different. Women are rallying around my campaign because we are ready to take our rightful place in Congress.” Myers said.

Paul Ryan, who has not hosted a town hall meeting in his district for well over two years, is reportedly considering stepping down as Speaker of the House following the final vote on his tax reform bill.

Myers noted that the timing of this report is relevant for another reason: “It makes sense that this report was published on the 5th Anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting because Paul Ryan has done nothing to make our schools and communities safer because he refuses to support common sense gun reform legislation.”

Paul Ryan has taken more money from the gun lobby than any member of the House of Representatives, past or present.

Cathy Myers concluded by highlighting the fact that Paul Ryan has also been one of the most vicious opponents of Planned Parenthood. “Speaker Ryan has tried to make healthcare decisions for women for years, so it’s only right that the women supporting my campaign are making this decision for him now. His career will be over in 2018 one way or another.”
