Off the Wall Theatre Opens 2019 Season with “VANYA”
“VANYA” performs Sept. 18 – 29, and tickets are $25.
Any production of a Chekhov play is a major theatrical event. A new modern version of Chekhov’s masterpiece “UNCLE VANYA” is especially noteworthy.
OFF THE WALL THEATRE begins it’s 2019/2020 season with a thrilling and arresting new adaptation called simply “VANYA.”
If you have ever been hopelessly in love, then “VANYA” will speak to you. If you have ever wondered where your life was going and what it all meant, then “VANYA” will touch you. If you have ever smiled at the utter ridiculousness of human beings, “VANYA” will make you laugh If you have ever had your heart broken, then “VANYA” will move you to tears.
Here is one of the greatest plays ever written performed by Milwaukee’s most innovative theater company.
Director Dale Gutzman has worked for over a year with a dozen different translations of this great play, honing, trimming, and juggling the text to bring to life an arresting, intimate, exciting production as only OFF THE WALL THEATRE can do.
Gutzman has assembled an incredible cast of Milwaukee theatre veterans for this show. David Flores takes another star turn as Uncle Vanya, a middle-aged dreamer hopelessly in love; Randall T. Anderson portrays Astrov, a doctor disillusioned with his work and his life; Alicia Rice is Elena, an object of desire for both of them; and Jenny Kosek plays the Professor’s hard working down to earth daughter, who loves Astrov.
Dale Gutzman also performs in the show as the Professor, Elena’s arrogant husband and Sonya’s father, joined by Barbara Weber as Nanny, Christine Horgen as Maria, and Lawrence Lukasavage as Telegin.
“VANYA” shows life in all of its mundanity heightened into something quite remarkable. Blackly comic and marvelously romantic, you must put “VANYA” at the top of your Milwaukee theater going list for this fall.
“VANYA” performs Sept. 18 – 29, and tickets are $25. Reserve your seat by calling (262) 509-0945 or visiting www.offthewallmke.com
