“Nomad World Pub Plans Week of Events to Celebrate 29th Anniversary”

Wide Variety of Events Kick Off Sunday the 10th through St. Patrick’s Day

Milwaukee— The Nomad World Pub, kicks off a weeklong 29th Anniversary Celebration with the return of its long running Sound Travels residency, hosted by 88.9’s Marcus Doucette on Sunday, March 10th at 6pm. The week’s wide-ranging festivities include food and drink specials, DJ’s, a drag show, tastings, tattoos, cook outs and, of course, a lot of soccer matches. The week culminates with their 30th annual St Paddy’s Day Bash on Sunday, March 17th.

Then tiny, the now iconic pub opened on Historic Brady Street with a bang in 1995 in a neighborhood that was gearing up for a renaissance spurred by a newly created Business Improvement District, a much-needed streetscape and a strong, active group of new business owners. Since then, the Nomad has grown physically year after year and now encompasses what owner Mike Eitel refers to as a sprawling “campus” featuring extensive patio areas, a covered deck, a parklet and several buildings including an adjacent house that is the home of Nomad Coffee Bar.

“The original Nomad was an 800 square foot experiment while I was on a break from grad school,” said Eitel, “I never dreamed it would last more than a year or two.”

“I borrowed $10k to fix up the existing dive bar, lived in the apartment upstairs, busted ass to get it open and tried to learn all I could about starting a business and keep it running,” Eitel remembered. “Just in case it failed, I was driving to UW Madison every morning for an intensive language course I needed for grad school and was getting back just in time to open up the bar at 4pm” Eitel continued.

Over the years, Nomad became an institution—known far and wide for large street events, diversity, tolerance and a welcoming place for all walks of life to enjoy live music, watch soccer, and meet new friends in an eclectic environment.

The Nomad Coffee Bar was added to the mix in 2021 to provide food and coffee for morning and afternoon soccer fans, opening daily at 6:30am. The pub and year-round patio open by 1pm weekdays and much earlier on weekends depending on matchday schedules and special events.
