No Pot of Gold – Sen. Larson Statement on Final State Senate Floor Session
MADISON, WI – We’ve come to the end of the rainbow of the 2025-27 Session of the Wisconsin Legislature. Anyone hoping to find a pot of gold is destined to be disappointed.
There’s a barley field of needs in our state right now. Our neighbors have been pretty clear. They want the state to keep its promise to our public school kids, to do something about rising property taxes, and to put up robust guardrails before approving any more AI data centers.
What they got instead of a Shamrock Shake on the final day of action in the State Senate was a cabbage smoothie of online sports betting, money for college sports, and a host of political garbage like telling poor people which foods they’re allowed to buy and forcing local Sheriff’s departments to collaborate with ICE.
If there was one four leaf clover on the day, it was that Senate Republicans finally relented and allowed a vote on a bill that will permit immigrants enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to apply for occupational licenses in our state. Not only is this the right thing to do, it’s good for our economy as well.
If the luck of the Irish is with us this November, perhaps the next legislative session will see us finally address the things our neighbors actually care about like lowering costs, raising wages, ensuring the super-rich finally pay their fair share, and standing up to a lawless federal administration. That’s the kind of future I will continue to fight for.
