Near West Side Partners and BID #10 Host “The Spirit of Wakanda Festival”

Arts festival to celebrate local African and African-inspired art

MILWAUKEE (October 4, 2018) – With the support of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation Reasons for Hope Grant, Near West Side Partners, Inc. (NWSP) will host the Spirit of Wakanda Festival, an arts festival celebrating African and African-inspired art and community fellowship on Saturday, October 6 from 1 – 5:00 p.m. at 27th Street and Wisconsin Avenue. In the event of rain, festivities will move indoors to the Mobile Design Box (753 N. 27th Street).

Local African dance and drumming group O.N.F.Y.A.H. (Our Nation For Youth Arts & Healing) will perform during the opening ceremony and throughout the festival. Visual artists including Ken Brown, Nubian Star, Ammar Nsoroma, Sonji Hunt, William Muhammed, Mutope Johnson, Darron Reed, Jeffrey Brown, T. Ruth Shank and Rachael Thompson will display their work.

Additional activities will include an arts and crafts table hosted by A.W.E. and music by Core DJ Sherman. Complimentary food and beverages will be available while supplies last.
