MILWAUKEE, WI – On Friday, October 22, 2021, the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) launched Operation Green Light in partnership with Alderman Ashanti Hamilton, the Villard Avenue BID and members of the business community.

Operation Green Light is a pilot program that provides real-time intelligence for criminal investigations as well as added security for businesses. High visibility cameras that include license plate reader functions are strategically placed in BID areas. The cameras provide a sense of security and encourages business growth. The cameras stream directly to the MPD Fusion Center, which allows real-time access. Operation Green Light also strengthens the Milwaukee Police Department’s effort on preventing and solving crime.

Currently, there are four cameras mounted on W. Villard Avenue from N. Teutonia Avenue to N. Hopkins Street. MPD is working with the Villard Avenue BID to add more cameras. All participating businesses must sign a Participant Agreement committing to being a good business partner.

MPD hopes to expand this program to other areas of the city and encourages those BIDS to reach out to us at for more information.
