Milwaukeeans to share cathartic stories at Ex Fabula’s New Year Spectacular 2018

Milwaukee, WI – January 8, 2018  The Spectacular is an evening of true and personal stories told by community members in a live storytelling event.

Ex Fabula is proud to announce our annual curated “New Year Spectacular” StorySlam. For this noncompetitive curated Slam, the storytellers are (selected in advance) will tell stories on the theme of “Break Free”. Audience members can participate in the storytelling by submitting UltraShorts, which are brief, true personal stories written on slips of paper and then read onstage by the emcee. This event will also include ASL interpretation.

“We’re thrilled that there will be ASL interpretation at the Spectacular as part of the Equal Access Project. Thanks to the Milwaukee Arts Board and the State of Wisconsin‘s Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for supporting our efforts to make our programs aggressively inclusive,” adds Megan McGee, Ex Fabula Executive Director.

Community members from various Ex Fabula collaborations will be featured as storytellers including Dan Lococo, Jeanette Mitchell, Telice Gillom, Bradley Glassel, Monica Thomas and Shawn Mitchell.

This year’s New Year Spectacular is possible thanks to support from Milwaukee Arts Board, Wisconsin Arts board with funding from State of Wisconsin, Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Douglas L.P Hamilton Fund and Harold Grosskopf Fund, a grant from Wisconsin Humanities Council with funds from National Endowment for the arts and State of Wisconsin, Northwestern Mutual, Milwaukee Turners, Transfer Pizzeria Café, Town Bank, WE Energies Foundation and Colectivo Coffee.
