Milwaukee Recreation will hold a grand reopening ceremony on Tuesday, May 6 at 4:30pm to mark the completed renovations to Wick Playfield (4929 W. Vliet St.) The event is open to the public. Community leaders and Milwaukee Recreation staff will also be in attendance.

Community feedback was essential to the Wick Playfield project, helping guide the design process and respond to the needs of the surrounding neighborhoods. Milwaukee Recreation led multiple in-person community engagement events and gathered additional input through online surveys.

“We are thrilled to see the completion of Wick Playfield,” said Brian Litzsey – Director, Milwaukee Recreation. “This playfield is beloved by those in the neighborhood, and the residents provided crucial input to help shape this space. We couldn’t be more proud of the end result. This new playfield is a stunning, vibrant, and welcoming space that children and families will enjoy for years to come.”

Wick Playfield now features modern playground equipment, new basketball courts, upgraded walking paths, comfortable plaza seating, improved lighting, synthetic turf baseball and softball diamonds, refreshed dirt softball diamonds, batting cages, and pitching bays. The site also features a splash pad to provide relief during hot summer days. In addition, the space is equipped with solar shade structures called E-Cacia Trees, designed and manufactured by Solar Forma Design.

Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to join Milwaukee Recreation for a Milwaukee City Conference (MCC) baseball game between Rufus King HS and Pulaski HS. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm.
