The Crossbow
Crossbows appeared in Asia and Europe around the 6th century BCE for hunting and warfare. In the 5th century CE, crossbows fell out of favor for military use until the 10th century but then continued to dominate European warfare until the 17th century. Photo courtesy of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
