By - Dec 20th, 2022 04:32 pm

MILWAUKEE, WI – On Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at approximately 7:33 a.m., Milwaukee Police responded to an active shooter on the 3300 block of W. Wells Street. A witness reported the suspect had fired a gun in a large residential facility occupied by multiple people.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the armed suspect, a 66-year-old Milwaukee male, in the basement, in close proximity of other occupants of the building.

Preliminary information indicated that the suspect pointed the firearm at an officer. Further investigation determined the suspect endangered the lives of those individuals in close proximity by refusing to drop the firearm, causing the officer to discharge his duty weapon, subsequently striking the suspect.

The suspect sustained a fatal injury and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The officer that discharged his firearm is a 38-year-old male with over 19 years of service. He will be placed on administrative duty as is routine in officer involved incidents.

This incident is being investigated by the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team with the Oak Creek Police Department as the lead agency.

This is a fluid and ongoing investigation. A community briefing discussing this incident will be released in the future. Milwaukee Police are thankful there were no further injuries.
