ILWAUKEE, WI (January 7, 2026) – The City of Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission (FPC), the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD), and the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee (UWM) are excited to announce a new partnership starting January 1, 2026. Under this new partnership, qualified UWM Criminal Justice and Criminology graduates may submit their college transcripts in lieu of taking the written examination for the Police Officer recruitment process. The goal in this partnership is to attract local graduates who may have the desire to begin their Criminal Justice careers with the Milwaukee Police Department. Under this new program, eligible applicants will also receive automatic Education Preference Points and advance directly to the Oral Interview stage of the selection process. To participate, applicants must:

  • Submit an online application for the current Police Officer position.
  • Email their official or unofficial UWM Criminal Justice transcripts to the Fire and Police Commission, care of jhendr@milwaukee.gov, using the subject line: “UWM Partnership Transcripts”.
  • Transcripts must be received within 30 days of the application date.

This partnership reflects our shared commitment to supporting UW-Milwaukee students while strengthening the pipeline between our local, community-minded graduates and the Milwaukee Police Department. This unique program hopes to provide MPD with a wider pool of officer candidates, UWM with the ability to promote this unique opportunity, and interested graduates with a more streamlined application process to becoming a Milwaukee Police Officer.
